cyst wall (GO:0097570)

The specialized envelope lying outside the cell membrane of a cyst. A cyst is a resting or dormant stage of a microorganism usually a bacterium or a protist or rarely an invertebrate animal, that helps the organism to survive in unfavorable environmental conditions. In protists such as protozoan parasites alternating cystic- and non-cystic stages, the cyst wall is usually composed of carbohydrates and proteins.
