Shock & renal failure following soft tissue injury.
Etiology:
- rhabdomyolysis
Clinical manifestations:
1) signs of injury
2) shock
3) oliguria
4) pain
5) somnolence
6) thirst
7) nausea
Laboratory:
1) increased serum markers of muscle injury
a) serum creatine kinase*
b) serum myoglobin
2) increased serum urea nitrogen
3) serum K+: hyperkalemia
5) serum Na+: hyponatremia
6) urine myoglobin: myoglobinuria*
* serum creatinine kinase (> 5x upper limit of normal) for diagnosis [2]
* urine myoglobin for management (see rhabdomyolysis) [3]
