Function: - positively regulates a late step in synaptic vesicle exocytosis - also involved in glucose-induced secretion of insulin by pancreatic beta-cells (putative) - binds to the SNARE core complex containing SNAP25, VAMP2 & STX1A (putative) Structure: belongs to the complexin/synaphin family Compartment: - cytoplasm, cytosol (putative) - enriched at synaptic-releasing sites in mature neurons Expression: - expressed in nervous system - in hippocampus & cerebellum, expressed mainly by inhibitory neurons Pathology: - overexpressed in substantia nigra from patients with Parkinson disease
