cotton-wool spot (CWS)
Punctate retinal infarcts seen on funduscopic examination.
They occur secondary to immune-mediated ischemic injury to vascular sheaths of nerves, especially in patients with diabetic retinopathy.
They do not produce symptoms or progress, thus no specific therapy is required.
