Indications: - refractive error (myopia, hyperopia)) - astigmatism Complications: - bacterial keratitis - Staphylococcal species - P aeruginosa - Streptococcus pneumoniae - Moraxella - fungal keratitis - Fusarium, Aspergillus, & Candida cause the great majority of fungal keratitis - Fusarium solani is the species implicated in a recent incidence of contact lens wearers experiencing a fungal keratitis - corneal ulcer Management: 1) wash hands with soap & water prior to handling lenses 2) clean lens case after each use 3) replace lens case after 3-6 months 4) remove contact lens overnight [3] Notes: - FDA approves 1st contact lens with light-adaptive technology [4]
