conduction aphasia

Etiology: - embolic occlusion of the posterior branches of the middle cerebral artery Pathology: - lesion of the upper bank of the sylvian fissure or inferior parietal lobe Clinical manifestations: 1) fluent speech, paraphasia 2) difficulty in repetition of speech 3) difficulty in reading aloud 4) patient aware of deficit 5) adequate comprehension of written & spoken words 6) associated manifestations a) contralateral hemihypesthesia b) homonymous hemianopsia c) abnormal optokinetic nystagmus 7) naming: usually abnormal 8) writing: abnormal
