A highly compacted molecule of DNA and associated proteins resulting in a cytologically distinct structure. Notes: - Note that this term can be used to annotate gene products that localize to a mitotic chromosome in an organism that undergoes an 'open mitosis' in which the nuclear envelope breaks down during mitosis.
