Classification: 1) type 1: reflex sympathetic dystrophy - no observable nerve lesions 2) type 2: causalgia - observable nerve lesions Pathology: - dysregulation of the autonomic nervous system Clinical manifestations: - severe pain, swelling, & changes in the skin - often affects an arm or a leg - may spread to another part of the body
