Etiology: 1) familial form (familial combined hyperlipidemia) 2) defect in LDL receptor Laboratory: 1) increase in LDL cholesterol 2) serum triglycerides are increased 3) VLDL is increased 4) apo E genotyping may be necessary to distinguish from type 3 Management: see hyperlipoproteinemia type 2
