Cohen-Mansfield Agitation Inventory (CMAI)
Indications:
- assessment of agitation in the elderly
Method:
29-item questionnaire completed by the patient's caregiver
Includes descriptions of 29 agitated behaviors.
Each is rated on a 7-point scale of frequency
- 0 = never, 6 = 2 or more times/hour,
- 7 = not applicable
Inter-rater agreement is 0.88-0.92.
A short form contains 14 items.
Behaviors
1) repetitive
2) relevant
3) not relevant
4) noises
5) screaming
6) complaining
7) attention
8) negative
9) verbal aggression
10) spitting
11) verbally bossy
12) verbal sexual advances
13) physical sexual advances
14) fidgety
15) wandering
16) outside
17) inappropriate dressing
18) repetitious mannerisims
19) inappropraite handling
20) grabbing/snatching
21) hoarding
22) hiding
23) stange movements
24) temper outburst
25) hitting
26) kicking
27) throwing
28) tearing/ destroying
29) grab/clinging
30) pushing
31) biting
32) scratching
33) hurting himself
34) hurting others
35) intentional falls
36) eat/drink nonfood substances
Behaviors occured most often:
- morning
- afternoon
- evening
- no time more than others
- different times for different behaviors
