cognitive behavior rating scale (CBRS)
A 117 item questionnaire that assesses 9 areas of functioning:
1) language deficits
2) apraxia
3) disorientation
4) agitation
5) need for routine
6) depression
7) higher cognitive deficits
8) memory disorder
9) dementia
The CBRS also includes questions on:
1) educational & occupational background
2) current social situation
3) activities of daily living
Caregivers use a 5-point scale to rate items, based upon the patient's behavior.
Advantages:
1) high test-retest reliability
2) ratings of dementia patients are higher than those of non demented patients on all scales except depression
Disadvantages:
1) too long for routine clinical use
2) relies heavily on the impression of caregivers, who may not be able to make objective observations
