codeine/pseudoephedrine/triprolidine (Actifed with codeine)
DEA controlled substance: class 5.
Indications:
- symptomatic relief of cough & upper respiratory symptoms
Contraindications:
- concurrent use of MAO inhibitors
Caution:
1) glaucoma
2) hypertension
3) respiratory insufficiency
Dosage:
1) adults & children > 12 years: 10 mL every 4-6 hours PRN
2) children 6-12 years: 5 mL every 4-6 hours PRN
3) children 2-6 years: 2.5 mL every 4-6 hours PRN
Syrup: pseudoephedrine HCl 30 mg, triprolidine HCl 1.25 mg, codeine phosphate 10 mg/5 mL (120 mL, 240 mL)
Adverse effects:
- drowsiness, hyperexcitability, dry mouth, constipation, GI upset, blurred vision
