Staphylococcus aureus is distinguished from other Staphylococci by the production of coagulase. 2 antigenically distinct forms [2] 1) cell-wall bound 2) free Plasma factor may induce release of cell-wall bound coagulase Coagulase-thrombin complex forms & cleaves fibrinogen to form fibrin clot.
