Clostridium difficile enterotoxin A

One of 3 enterotoxins produced by certain strains of Clostridium difficile. Toxin A produces mucosal damage in experimental animals and damage to human colonic mucosa in cell cultures, is a chemotactic agent for neutrophils, an activator of macro- phages & mast cells, & causes actin disaggregation & intra- cellular Ca+2-release. Toxin A also appears to be neurotoxic.
