clomiphene; clomiphene citrate (Clomid, Serophene)

Tradename: Clomid, Serophene. (clomiphene citrate) Indications: - treatment of ovulatory failure in women attempting to become pregnant Dosage: 50 mg PO QD x 5 days (days 5-9 of menstrual cycle). Tabs: 50 mg. Adverse effects: 1) common (> 10%) - hot flashes, ovarian enlargement 2) less common (1-10%) - visual changes - blurring, diplopia, floaters, after-images, phosphenes, photophobia - gastrointestinal (GI) - hepatotoxicity, distension, bloating, nausea/vomiting - headache - thromboembolism - breast enlargement (males) - abnormal menstrual flow - depression 3) uncommon (< 1%) - insomnia, fatigue, weight gain, reversible alopecia, increased urination
