clobetasol propionate

see clobetasol topical Indications: 1) short term treatment of inflammatory dermatoses - seborrheic dermatitis, atopic dermatitis, contact dermatitis, nummular eczema [4] 2) psoriasis 3) lichen sclerosus Dosage: (topical) 1) 0.05% cream/ointment/spray/scalp application QD/BID 2) up to 2 weeks of therapy - 4 weeks then gradually taper over 2-3 months for lichen sclerosus 3) maximum: 50 g/week 4) avoid application of occlusive dressing to the site(s) of clobetasol administration Solution: (0.05%) for scalp 25 & 50 mL. Cream (0.05%) 15 & 30 g. Gel: (0.05%) (propionate): 15, 30 & 45 g. Spray: (0.05%) (Clobex, Galderma) 2 oz Adverse effects: 1) not common (1-10%) - skin irritation, dryness, erythema, pruritus, papular rashes 2) uncommon (< 1%) - acneiform eruptions, hypertrichosis, hypopigmentation, perioral dermatitis, skin maceration, skin atrophy, striae, miliaria 3) other - suppression of hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis Mechanism of action: high-potency corticosteroid
