Nerve fibers arising in the inferior olivary nucleus of the medulla synapsing on proximal Purkinje cell dendrites in the cerebellar cortex.
Innervation:
- input of climbing fibers is excitatory
- each climbing fiber synapses on 1-10 Purkinje cells & each Purkinje cell receives input from only one climbing fiber
