cleft lip

A congenital facial anomaly of the lip, generally the upper lip. It results from failure of the medial & lateral nasal prominences & maxillary processes to fuse during development. It is frequently associated with cleft palate. Genetics: 1) autosomal dominant 2) autosomal recessive 3) X-linked Complications: - cleft lip is not linked to increased mortality & morbidity [2]* * cleft palate is linked to increased mortality & morbidity
