ciclopirox (Loprox, Penlac nail lacquer, Batrfen)
Tradenames: Loprox, Penlac nail lacquer. (ciclopirox olamine)
Indications:
1) treatment of tinea, cutaneous candidiasis, dermatophytes
2) topical treatment of onychomycosis of fingernails & toenails without lunula involvement due to Trichophyton rubrum
3) treatment of seborrheic dermatitis, dandruff [4]
Dosage:
- adult & chidren > 10 years
a) apply BID
b) discontinue & re-evaluate if no improvement in 4 weeks
c) 12% success rate (onychomycosis) after 1 year of daily use [3]
Cream: 1%, 15 & 30 g.
Lotion: 1%, 30 mL.
Adverse effects:
- not common (1-10%)
- irritation, erythema, pain or burning, worsening of clinical condition
