- complete blood count (CBC)
- iron studies
- serum ferritin (rule out hemochromatosis)

- prevention
- NSAID use (RR = 0.74), especially aspirin (RR = 0.55), associated with reduced risk of death from chronic liver disease [1]
- treatment of chronic pain should include physical therapy because it will not exacerbate chronic liver disease [3]

- hepatitis A vaccine
- hepatitis B vaccine
- pneumococcal vaccines
- annual influenza vaccine
