chromo (CHRromatin Organization MOdifier) domain

Conserved region of about 60 amino acid residues, originally found in Drosophila modifiers of variegation (proteins that promote formation of heterochromatin. In protein Polycomb, the chromodomain is important for chromatin targeting.
