chorioretinitis; ocular toxoplasmosis
Etiology:
- toxoplasmosis in immunodeficent patients
Pathology:
- inflammation of the choroid & retina
- necrotizing retinitis
- vitreous inflammation
Clinical manifestations:
- fluffy white necrotizing retinitis adjacent to pigmented chorioretinal scar
- vitreous inflammation
- vision loss, presumably painful
Differential diagnosis:
- cytomegalovirus retinitis
- painless vision loss
- no significant vitreous inflammation
Management:
- see toxoplamsosis
- no therapeutic approach is curative of ocular toxoplasmosis
