chlorpheniramine/phenylpropanolamine (Contac 12 hour, Ornade, Decongestant DT, Dura-Tap, Spansule)
Indications:
- symptomatic relief from symptoms of alleregies
- allergic rhinitis, allergic, conjunctivitis, sneezing, atopy
- symptomatic relief influenza & cold symptoms
- nasal congestion, rhinorrhea, sinusitis, headache, cough, fever [3]
Contraindications:
1) severe hypertension
2) coronary artery disease
3) concurrent MAO inhibitor therapy
Dosage:
- adults & children > 12 years: 1 tab PO every 12 hours
chlorpheniramine maleate 12 mg & phenylpropanolamine HCl 75 mg
chlorpheniramine maleate 4 mg & phenylpropanolamine HCl 60 mg
Adverse effects:
- not common (1-10%)
- hypertension, sedation, nervousness
