chlorpheniramine/phenylephrine (OMNIhist LA)
Indications:
- symptomatic relief from allergies
- allergic rhinitis, allergic conjunctivitis, atopy
- relief from cold symptoms & cold & flu symptoms
- aches & pain, headache, sinusitis, nasal congestion, rhinorrhea, cough, sneezing
- insomnia [2]
Contraindications:
1) glaucoma
2) asthma
3) pregnancy
4) concurrent MAO inhibitor therapy
Caution:
1) coronary artery disease
2) peripheral vascular disease
3) hypertension
4) hyperthyroidism
5) urinary bladder neck obstruction
Dosage:
1) adults & children > 12 years: 1 tab PO every 12 hours
2) children 6-12 years: 1/2 tab PO every 12 hours
3) tablets should not be crushed or chewed
chlorpheniramine maleate 8 mg
phenylephrine HCl 20 mg
methscopolamine nitrate 2.5 mg
Adverse effects:
1) not common (1-10%)
a) central nervous system
- drowsiness, giddiness, faintness, dizziness
b) gastrointestinal
- increased appetite, weight gain, nausea, diarrhea abdominal pain, xerostomia
2) uncommon (< 1%)
- cardiovascular
- chest tightness, palpitations, tachycardia, hypotension, hypertension
- central nervous system: depression, insomnia
- dermatologic: photosensitivity, rash, angioedema
- endocrine & metabolic: lassitude, anorexia
- gastrointestinal
- vomiting, constipation
- genitourinary: urinary frequency, dysuria
- hepatitis
- neuromuscular: myalgia, paresthesia
- ocular: diplopia, blurred vision
- respiratory: bronchospasm, epistaxis
- hypersensitivity reaction: rash, urticaria, leukopenia, agranulocytosis, thrombocytopenia
