For example:
1) initiation of gene expression resulting in protein synthesis
2) initiation of therapy to the point of clinical effect
In anesthesiology:
-> the period from start of anesthesia to the establishment of a depth of anesthesia sufficient for surgery
In cancer chemotherapy:
-> drug therapy given as the primary treatment for patients who present with advanced cancer for which no alternative treatment exists In obstetrics:
-> induction of labor
