- nephrotic syndrome
- occasionally in:
- Kwashiorkor
- tropical sprue
- certain infants with a syndrome of anemia & hypoproteinemia
Increases:
- pregnancy
- subacute or chronic infection
- myocardial infarction
- hepatic cirrhosis
- hyperthyroidism
- aplastic anemia or refractory anemia
- Hodgkin's disease
- acute leukemia
- estrogen therapy
Principle:
The Beckman Array Protein System, in conjunction with the Ceruloplasmin Reagent Test Kit, is intended for in vitro diagnostic quantitation of Ceruloplasmin in biological fluids by rate nephelometry.
Ceruloplasmin is a blue copper protein found in serum associated with alpha globulin. Although variations in its concentration are found in various pathologic conditions, its exact metabolic role is unknown.
It is a late acute phase reactant; it is the principle copper-containing protein of plasma.
Specimen:
No special patient preparation is required. 200 uL of serum. Store sample in freezer until ready for assay. Highly lipemic samples may result in inaccurate determination & should be redrawn on a fasting patient.
