centrosome protein 55; up-regulated in colon cancer 6 (CEP55, C10orf3, URCC6)

Function: 1) mitotic exit 2) cytokinesis 3) Not required for microtubule nucleation 4) hierachy of phosphorylation, where both Ser-425 & Ser-428 are phosphorylated at the onset of mitosis, prior to phosphorylation of Ser-436. 5) phosphorylation at Ser-425 & Ser-428 required for dissociation from centrosome at G2/M boundary. 6) phosphorylation at the 3 sites, Ser-425, Ser-428 & Ser-436, is required for completion of cytokinesis 7) interacts with centrosome components rather than with microtubules. 8) interacts with PLK1 when phosphorylated on Ser-425 & Ser-428 9) interacts with AKAP9 & PCNT during interphase Compartment: - present at the centrosomes at interphase - during mitosis, phosphorylation-dependent dissociation from centrosome Alternative splicing: named isoforms=2 Expression: - widely expressed, mostly in proliferative tissues - highly expressed in testis > fetal thymus, cancer cell lines > digestive tract, bone marrow, lymph nodes, placenta, fetal heart, fetal spleen - very low levels in expressed in brain
