Cefaly transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (Cefaly)

Indications: - prevention of migraine headache in patient >= 18 years - for use prior to onset of headache Procedure: - small, portable, battery-powered, prescription device - resembles a plastic headband worn across the forehead & on top of the ears - the user positions the device in the center of the forehead, just above the eyes, using a self-adhesive electrode - the device applies an electric current to the skin & underlying tissues to stimulate branches of cranial nerve 5 - use only once a day for 20 minutes Adverse effects: - the user may feel a tingling or massaging sensation where the electrode is applied
