CD3

Function: - associates with the T-cell receptor as the TcR/CD3 complex - mediates signal transduction Structure: - 90% of CD3 proteins contain gamma or delta & epsilon & zeta homodimers - single cells contain both gamma-epsilon(2) -zeta(2) & delta-epsilon(2)-zeta(2) CD3/TCR complexes - in 10% of CD3, zeta homodimers are replaced by zeta-eta heterodimer Expression: - thymocytes - peripheral T cells - NK cells - Purkinje cells of cerebellum Pathology: - expressed in T cell lymphomas ~80% Laboratory: - most specific T cell marker - CD3 cells in specimen - CD3 cells in tissue - CD3 cells in body fluid - CD3 (cytoplasmic) cells in body fluid - CD3 cells in blood - CD3 (cytoplasmic) cells in blood - CD3 (cytoplasmic) blasts in blood
