CD23; low affinity immunoglobulin epsilon Fc receptor; lymphocyte IgE receptor; Fc-epsilon-RII; BLAST-2; immunoglobulin E-binding factor (FCER2, CD23A, FCE2, IGEBF)

Function: - low affinity IgE Fc receptor - associates with/activates fyn [2] - triggers release of monokines by monocytes - B cell growth factor, promoting differentiation into plasma cells - regulation of IgE production Structure: - N- & O-glycosylated - contains 1 C-type lectin domain Compartment: - cell membrane - also exists as a soluble excreted form Alternative splicing: named isoforms=2 Expression: - activated mature B cells expressing IgM or IgD - other B cells stain negatively with antibody - monocytes/macrophages - subset of T cells - platelets - eosinophils - Langerhans cells - follicular dendritic cells Pathology: - expressed in B-cell CLL/SLL - mantle cell lymphoma stains negatively with antibody Laboratory: - CD21 & CD23 are dendritic cell markers
