Function: - component of integrin alpha-X/beta-2 (CD11c/CD18) Structure: - integrin I-domain (insert) is a VWFA domain - integrins with I-domains do not undergo protease cleavage - belongs to the integrin alpha chain family - contains 7 FG-GAP repeats - contains 1 VWFA domain Compartment: membrane Expression: - activated CD4/CD8+ T cells ~50% - granulocytes - lymphocytes - macrophages - activated microglia - NK cells - predominantly expressed in monocytes & granulocytes Pathology: - expressed in: a) AML-M4/M5 ~50% b) hairy cell leukemia (virtually all) c) B-CLL (associated with good prognosis) - genetic variations in CD11c influence susceptibility to systemic lupus erythematosus [3]
