caudate infarction/lesion

Pathology: - ischemic stroke involving lenticulostriate artery resulting in infarction of the caudate nucleus Clinical manifestations: 1) memory deficits 2) attention deficit 3) deficit in verbal fluency 4) deficits in executive function 5) deficits in set shifting 6) lesion in the head of the caudate nucleus a) confusion b) abulia c) sudden onset of apathy d) slowness of thoughts & movements e) restlessness & agitation (occasional) f) decreased attention g) motor symptoms generally mild & transient -> result from extension to involve anterior limb of the internal capsule & putamen
