Function: - has activity against the synthetic substrates a) Boc-Phe-Ser-Arg-Mec b) Boc-Leu-Thr-Arg-Mec c) Boc-Gln-Ala-Arg-Mec d) Boc-Val- Pro-Arg-Mec - the single-chain form is more active than the two-chain form against all of these substrates - preferential cleavage: Arg-|-Xaa, Lys-|-Xaa - occurs in a single-chain form & a two-chain form, produced by proteolytic cleavage after Arg-122 Cofactor: binds 1 Ca+2 per subunit Structure: - belongs to the peptidase S1 family - contains 1 peptidase S1 domain Compartment: - secreted, extracellular space Pathology: - mutations associated with hereditary chronic pancreatitis
