carotid artery revascularization

Complications: - perioperative subclinical cerebral ischemia occurs commonly, especially during carotid stenting, - cognitive deficits can result [1,2] - perioperative morbidity & mortality are substantial [3] - 30 day mortality = 1.2% & 2.3% for asymptomatic & symptomatic carotid stenosis, respectively - 30 day mortality among dialysis patients is 5% [3] - rate of stroke or death varies from 1%-6% across U.S. regions [4] - 2 year mortality = 28% & 37% for asymptomatic & symptomatic carotid stenosis, respectively [3]
