caspase activation & recruitment (CARD) domain

Consists of six alpha helices, some similarity to death domain & death effector domains. Mediates interaction between large prodomain caspases & their corresponding upstream activator adaptors. Proteins containing card domains include RAIDD, caspase-1, caspase-2, caspase-4, caspase-9, c-IAP1, c-IAP2, ICEBERG & C. elegans ced-3 & ced-4.
