Reference interval:
- < 4 ng/mL
Increases:
- presence in serum associated with:
a) adenocarcinomas of the gastrointestinal tract
- elevated in 50% of patients gastric cancer
b) adenocarcinoma of the ovary
c) adenocarcinoma of the breast
Method:
- IRMA
Specimen: (specimen requirements)
1) serum
2) stable up to 24 hours at 2-8 degrees C
3) for longer periods, store at -20 degrees C (avoid repetitive freeze-thaw cycles)
Procedure:
- the test uses two antibodies
a) CC49 purified against highly purified TAG-72
b) B72-3 raised against a membrane fraction of a human breast cancer cell line
Notes:
- antigen of mucin-type high molecular weight glycoprotein,
- tumor-associated glycoprotein 72 (TAG-72).
