Cameron erosion

Epidemiology: - 5% of patients with hiatal hernia Pathology: - linear erosions of gastric hiatal hernia mucosa - thought to be caused by mechanical trauma of hiatal hernia sliding up & down Clinical manifestations: - chronic upper GI hemorrhage presenting as iron-deficiency anemia Laboratory: - complete blood count vs hemoglobin/hematocrit - iron studies Special laboratory: - upper GI endoscopy Management: - proton pump inhibitor - oral iron supplementation - surgical repair of hiatal hernia
