Etiology:
1) popliteal cyst (Baker's cyst)
2) tears of the medial head of the gastrocnemius
3) deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
4) chronic venous insufficiency
5) muscle cramps
6) trauma
7) peripheral arterial disease (intermittent claudication)
8) lumbar spinal stenosis
9) also see leg pain
Differential diagnosis:
- Achilles tendon rupture*
- Achilles tendonitis
* described as calf pain [3]
Management:
- see muscle cramp
