calcipotriene; calcipotriol (Dovonex, Dovobet)
Tradename: Dovonex. A synthetic 1,25 dihydroxy vitamin D3 analog.
Indications:
1) psoriasis
2) venous stasis ulcers (insufficiency)
Dosage: topical: apply BID Ointment 0.005%. 60g & 100g.
Monitor:
- serum Ca+2 baseline & regularly
- discontinue if hypercalcemmia & monitor serum Ca+2 weekly until levels normalize [4]
Adverse effects:
1) not common (1-10%)
- burning, stinging, pruritus, erythema, facial dermatitis
2) transient elevation of serum Ca+2 may occur
