CD157; ADP-ribosyl cyclase 2; cyclic ADP-ribose hydrolase 2; bone marrow stromal antigen 1 (BST1)

Function: - synthesizes cyclic ADP-ribose, a second messenger that elicits Ca+2 release from intracellular stores - may be involved in pre-B-cell growth NAD+ + H2O ADP-ribose + nicotinamide Structure: - homodimer - belongs to the ADP-ribosyl cyclase family Compartment: cell membrane; lipid-anchor, GPI-anchor Expression: widely expressed Pathology: - patients with rheumatoid arthritis show enhanced expression of CD157 transcripts in bone marrow stromal cell lines; thus CD157 overexpression may play a role in B-cell abnormalities in rheumatoid arthritis

General
