brush border
Consists of microvillae which serves to enhance cell surface area available for absorption of small molecules.
Brush border is found in:
1) intestinal mucosa
2) proximal convoluted tubule of kidney
The microvillae are about 1-1.5 uM in length & 0.03 uM in width by electron microscopy. Mucopolysaccharides & alkaline phosphatase are associated with the brush border.
