- raw milk from from K-Bar Dairy in Paradise, Texas possiblly contaminated with Brucella abortus RB51 in 2017 [3]
Laboratory:
- Brucella abortus serology
- Brucella abortus DNA
- Brucella abortus rRNA
Management:
- postexposure prophylactic antibiotics
- doxycycline + trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole for 21 days [2]
Notes:
- persons consuming raw milk or raw milk products contaminated with RB51 at high risk for brucellosis [2]
- RB51 resistant to rifampin & penicillin in vitro [2]
