- a brown granular cast may also be a muddy brown cast
Etiology:
1) renal tubular disease (acute tubular necrosis)
2) tubulointerstitial disease
3) renal glomerular disease
- medication-induced decrease in glomerular perfusion
- triple whammy of NSAID, ACE inhibitor & diuretic with volume depletion decreases glomerular perfusion
4) renal allograft rejection
5) pyelonephritis
6) viral infections
7) chronic lead poisoning
8) hematuria
9) renal papillary necrosis
