Etiology:
1) vagus nerve stimulation
2) extrinsic allergens, asthma
3) release of cytokines
4) external physical & chemical injury
5) airway hypothermia
6) other factors
- exercise
7) drugs inducing bronchospasm
a) beta adrenergic receptor antagonists (beta-blockers)
b) non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
1] acetylsalicylic acid
2] indomethacin
3] ibuprofen
4] naproxen
5] mefenamate
6] fenoprofen
c) Isuprel
d) drugs inducing pulmonary infiltrates with eosinophilia
e) nebulized medications
Special laboratory:
- exercise test for bronchospasm
- provocation inhalation challenge test
Management:
- stop offending medications
- avoid environmental
- see asthma
