Procedure: - with your stethoscope, listen over symmetrical areas over the chest wall - ask the patient to say 'ninety-nine'. Clinical manifestations: - spoken words generally muffled & indistinctly heard in the air-filled lungs - with pulmonary consolidation, they are heard distinctly & sound close to the ear
