Clinical manifestations: - at least one manic episode - a single manic episode is sufficient for diagnosis if other causes are ruled out - depressive episodes are common but not required for diagnosis - some patients never have a depressive episode Laboratory: - urine drug screen - amphetamines in urine - cocaine in urine - benzoylecgonine in urine Management: - see bipolar disorder - adjunctive antidepressants may be stopped after remission of depression [2]
