Hamstring muscle of the posterior compartment of the thigh.
Origin:
1) long head: tuberosity of the ischium
2) short head: lower 1/2 of the lateral lip of the linea aspera (posterior femur)
Insertion: head of the fibula
Action:
1) flexes knee
2) rotates the flexed knee laterally
Innervation:
1) long head: tibial nerve
2) short head: common fibular nerve One of the muscles that crosses 2 joints (hip & knee).
