Function:
1) corepressor complex that represses transcription of neuron-specific genes in non-neuronal cells
2) recruited at NRSE sites by REST
3) deacetylates & demethylates specific sites on histones
4) may recruit chromatin-remodeling SWI-SNF complex
5) within the complex:
- RCOR1 enhances demethylase activity of AOF2 & protects it from the proteasome
- PHF21A inhibits demethylase activity of AOF2
