balanitis

Inflammation/infection of the glans penis. Etiology: - generally related to poor hygiene in uncircumcized men - Candida - associated disorders: a) Reiter's syndrome b) reactive arthritis c) lichen sclerosus et atrophicus d) erythema multiforme - harsh soaps or prolonged contact with soap after bathing - uncontrolled diabetes - dapagliflozin & presumably other flozins related to glucosuria [4] Clinical manifestations: - circinate balanitis: shallow, moist, serpinginous ulcers with raised borders - may be painful - may be foul-smelling Laboratory: - urinalysis may show pyuria Management: - hygiene - topical antibiotics - clotrimazole for candidiasis - circumcision
