axilla

The space below the shoulder joint, bounded by: 1) the pectoralis major, anteriorly 2) the latissimus dorsi posteriorly 3) the serratus anterior, medially 4) the humerus laterally. It has a superior opening between the clavicle, scapula & 1st rib (cervicoaxillary canal), & an inferior opening covered by the axillary fascia. It contains: 1) the axillary artery & vein 2) the infraclavicular part of the brachial plexus 3) axillary lymph nodes & vessels 4) areolar tissue
